Mail prices

#1 Post by Bikey » Mon May 26, 2008 10:13 am

Hi all,
Nothing definite or decided yet, but with continuing increases in postal costs here in UK we are debating the issue of charging a nominal fee for international postage. We've been providing free postage worldwide for some time, but it's sadly becoming no longer viable.
We welcome your thoughts ...

Bikey,

I think the obvious response is that you've gotta do what you've gotta do. SR isn't a mega-company that can just throw money away. Can you give a concrete figure for the term "nominal"?

I believe in actively supporting small, independent companies, so my (political) preference is to buy directly from SR if it helps them out. That said, I'm on a tight budget. At worst, this just means I'll get your stuff from amazon.uk or play.com instead of ordering directly from you. Does this sort of purchasing drastically affect your bottom line?

My sentiments are similar to those of jbeall.

Same here. It's difficult all around for me to shell out the cash for international releases at all, but a few extra bucks certainly isn't going to mean that Second Run loses my money. I'll second jbeall's question about amazon.co.uk purchases and their effect on your bottom line.

I don't know if it's different for the UK site, but the US Amazon site credits the distributer with 45% of the list price upon making a sale, not counting the cost of keeping stock space and other regular fees.

Thanks for the comments guys.
Even if we do charge a nominal fee for posting outside of UK I still think we'll be cheaper for international shipping than Amazon etc.

Though I don't want to suggest that people shouldn't use Amazon etc.
Amazon and stores like it are VERY important for us.

With UK Mail Prices increasing again - looks like we wil have to start charging at least a nominal fee for overseas shipping.
No date as to when this will be implemented, but there'll be plenty of notice given.
Thanks for your understanding.
