digitalfix
Hm, I was hoping "The White Dove" would look a little better... Was this an analog tape master?

Re: Joseph Kilián/The White Dove
MichaelB seems to think so and since there wasn't a restoration recently that would make sense.

Re: Joseph Kilián/The White Dove
It was definitely either that or nothing. It clearly needs a proper restoration, but I'm glad Second Run went ahead anyway, as it's still a massive advance on the Facets DVD (which until now was the only DVD edition available worldwide - even the Czechs haven't produced one).
And if The White Dove was a comparative disappointment (technically if not artistically), Josef Kilián comfortably exceeded expectations.

Yes, I saw that first and was blown not just by the film itself, but how relatively great looking it is on the disc.

Just watched it (T W D)! Brilliant as *uck but omg - the soundtrack - with the exception of those baroque and jazzy bits I've found it totally weary and for me it just jars with that surreal, urban fairy tale I got so much engrossed to. Really obsolete and from other era against a background of Vlacil's 60's way-out ideas for film-making.

Re: Joseph Kilián/The White Dove
Does everyone else's copy of this have a printing error on the spine? My first has a crude, strange purply line where the text is. I ordered another and was planning on sending back the first but this replacement also has one!

Daines - sorry to hear about the print issue. All the ones we have here appear fine and I know those I sent out to press were OK. Where did yours come in from? I'll be taking this up with Sony tomorrow.

Both were from Amazon, I believe. First was a gift, but it was from my Amazon wishlist.
