Are the German Metropolis extras English friendly?

I'll have to begin that German class I've been meaning to go to for a long time.

Good. It seems MoC heard my cries about Fellini.

Strange though that this is the one already available blu with english subs. Hopefully there will be copious extras not on that particular edition.andyli wrote:Good. It seems MoC heard my cries about Fellini.

Not really strange considering they don't produce their own HD masters and the rest of his major films are already distrubuted by others.NABOB OF NOWHERE wrote:Strange though that this is the one already available blu with english subs. They should try and grab La Dolce Vita from Nouveaux, if Nouveaux even exist anymore.

No Tabu.
Hopefully holding off on the German Blu-ray of Der blaue Engel will pay dividends though.
Needless to say having just bought the French Blu-ray of La citta' delle donne a few weeks ago, I'm would have preferred another Fellini, but I doubt the rights to too many of his major films are available. Hopefully MoC will at the very least give us the four pieces on the French disc and add a juicy booklet. It might not turn out to be a bad thing that I bought the French though, considering that many MoCs (four of the Pasolinis, sadly) in recent times have had no on disc extras. It's still sealed anyway, so I can see tomorrow whether to stick or twist.

Maybe I've misunderstood but Fellini's most acclaimed work is out on Blu-ray: 8 1/2.NABOB OF NOWHERE wrote:This is the only blu with english subs. The Old Dark House (Whale, 1932)
I see that Fear And Desire is from a Library Of Congress print, and that Kino are also releasing it in the United States. A film desperately crying out for a top-quality blu-ray edition is James Whale's The Old Dark House, which, yes, exists in a restored Library of Congress 35mm print, and whose rights Universal have lost to Kino (not enough monster action in the film for Uni to want to hold on to it, I suppose). Kino's DVD edition came from a 16mm print, thought at the time to be the only one surviving. There is an opportunity here for a release matching the superb Island Of Lost Souls, another fine film emerging from and in many ways transcending the early 1930s horror cycle, that had never previously had an adequate release.
An MoC edition in blu with bells and whistles of Edgar Ulmer's The Black Cat would be a wonder too.

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
I hope Tabu, Muriel, Birth of a Nation and Fritz Lang's Indian Epic are among the next 2013 batch of titles. Also, is Eureka considering releasing White Zombie on blu?

Spines 47 and 52 remain vacant...so perhaps it is reasonable to speculate a film released in 1947 might be in the docket.

How about Out of the Past for 47? Universal owned in the UK.Drucker wrote:Spines 47 and 52 remain vacant...so perhaps it is reasonable to speculate a film released in 1947 might be in the docket.

@mastersofcinema: We'll announce March/April releases in early December, it's looking like. Also the way it's looking: 8 films (features) in total.
From the wording, it seems like we'll be getting double features or a box set.

Yes you're probably right. Ugetsu/Oyu and Sansho/Gion got upgrades this year in April, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see similar upgrades for Chikamatsu/Uwasa and Street of Shame/Yokihi for April '13. Here's hoping.Calvin wrote:@mastersofcinema: We'll announce March/April releases in early December, it's looking like. Also the way it's looking: 8 films (features) in total.

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
I'm just hoping for some world DVD/Blu-ray debuts. I'd settle for English-friendly debuts though. It'd be nice to see them making available some things again that have previously not been.

Just give me 30s Ophuls, and I'll be content for the rest of next year...
