Crikey! I ought to put mine up for sale & use the money to buy this new set.

But remember there is a difference between offering it for a particular price and someone buying it at that price, as the numpty offering the Fox-Lorber Nostalghia for $712 will find out (and as I found out when I used to sell collectable records).

I am afraid I will probably give this one a miss as I have two versions of Testament (four if I count the French and American versions) and two of Gambler, along with 1000 Eyes. It would be nice to make some room on my shelves but... I shall wait and see what the bonuses are though.

For many other people though it will be a tremendous buy and kudos to MoC for putting it together. (OTOH, if people do punt 1000 Eyes for significant money, please let me know...)

Have to say I don`t yet own any of the movies that`ll be in the set, so this will be a no-brainer for me. Really looking forward to this one.

I put my 1000 Eyes up at Amazon, and there haven't been any bites.

Quite a challenge for Mr. Kalat: trying not to duplicate too much from his previous commentaries, in order to entice potential double-dippers, while not skimping on the basic information needed by those who will only get this edition.

I am eagerly awaiting more details about this, regarding prints used, possible restored footage and attractive and relevant extras.

I'm pretty sure (though I'd humbly stand corrected if wrong) the transfer for the silent will be the same as the previous Eureka/Kino release, and the Testament will be from the master used for the CC... can't say viz the 1,000 Eyes though.

I agree about the commentaries: Kalat has already given two different commentaries for Dr Mabuse der Spieler! Three different go-rounds for a five hour film! Amazing!

Schreck's on the money re: the transfers. We're using the best available source for 1,000 EYES.

Kalat's nailing the commentaries once and for all.

* Newly recorded feature-length audio commentaries on all three movies by film-scholar and Fritz Lang expert David Kalat.
* Three video-featurettes totalling an hour-and-a-half in length on: the score of Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler.; the creation of Norbert Jacques' 'Mabuse' character; and the motifs running throughout the works.
* 2002 video interview with Wolfgang Preiss, the star of Die 1000 Augen des Dr. Mabuse.
* An alternate ending to Die 1000 Augen des Dr. Mabuse taken from the French print of the film.
* Optional English-language dub track for Die 1000 Augen des Dr. Mabuse.
* Three lengthy booklets containing a new translation of Fritz Lang's 1924 lecture on 'Sensation Culture'; an essay by critic and scholar Michel Chion on the use of sound in Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse; new writing on Die 1000 Augen des Dr. Mabuse by critic David Cairns; extracts from period interviews with Fritz Lang; an abundance of production stills, illustrations, and marketing collateral and more!

Should I sell my CC Testament of Mabuse to prepare for this set?

No, because it looks like the MOC does not contain the alternate version from the second disc and Kalat's commentary will be different

Will it be region-free? I'm contemplating the idea of selling my region 2 Eureka Gambler and my Criterion Testament to buy the box set. I'd love to see 1000 Eyes.

Will Testament include the French version (i e the CC)? Question while in contemplation of dumping the CC for the upgrade.

No - it's not included (and not listed at our website). The master was pretty bad, and we didn't think it deserved a disc to itself, as part of a large project like this where we were trying to keep the cost down as much as possible.

The production delay was not too long since Amazon ha started to ship these.

I am particularly interested in checking how much new information David Kalat manages to bring to his all-new commentaries. Knowing myself, I bet I will end up keeping all my other editions of each films since they all have at least a little something specific to them.
