What's silly is the size of those screengrabs (though they look phenomenal!)peerpee wrote:We ditched the expansive booklet at the last minute. The BD has a 20-page booklet now, the DVDs booklet contains the same content. We're putting all the articles online instead, it was getting silly at 120-pages.
Here are actual fullsize grabs from the MoC Blu-ray of SUNRISE (Czech print)
Re: the book decision, of course I am still going to buy this right up (assuming it's region-free, yes?), but for future reference (and in case you ever put this to a vote), thick books make movies seem more important, and also, I prefer to do my reading on the crapper, not while sitting in front of a computer screen.

Re: 1 Sunrise
Sad news. There's nothing greater than dwelling into a thick booklet after seeing a good film. Reading the articles online isn't quite the same. I hope this isn't a new trend you're starting! We ditched the expansive booklet at the last minute. The BD has a 20-page booklet now, the DVDs booklet contains the same content. Re: 1 Sunrise
It just got way too large for us to manage. We'd be sending out something the size of a doorstep in the mail. There are lots of other costs associated with such a large package too.
We didn't want to include some of the essays and not others, so we cut the lot.
We probably will not be doing any booklets larger than 48-pages again. Thanks to the Blu-ray box.

Oh, well. If it's a cost thing, it can't be helped. So long as all the books up until this release stay as big and chunky as they are.
It's still Region free, right?

Re: 1 Sunrise
So the book has gone from 120 to 68 to 20? Seeing the screen caps, I'm getting this anyway, but that is disappointing. A nice booklet helps make the package feel special.peerpee wrote:It just got way too large for us to manage. We'd be sending out something the size of a doorstep in the mail. Does this mean there is material in the original MoC DVD booklet that isn't being ported onto this blu-ray edition?

Oh man... Isn't there a company that can make bigger Blu-ray boxes? Or can't you just release the Blu-ray in a normal DVD box? It doesn't sound like a major problem. We probably will not be doing any booklets larger than 48-pages again. Thanks to the Blu-ray box.

We have plans to do something larger for METROPOLIS, DIE NIBELUNGEN, and a few other titles, and DVD booklets can go larger than 48-pages. Timing was the main factor here - rather than a new policy.

I can hardly control my excitement just thinking about having this, Metropolis, and Die Nibelungen on blu-ray. I'm seriously acting like a little girl in my head.

Re: 1 Sunrise
The BFI released Nighthawks with a properly bound 76-page booklet, but had to stick it and the Blu-ray case in a separate cardboard slipcase - there's clearly no way it would fit in a standard one.peerpee wrote:We have plans to do something larger for METROPOLIS, DIE NIBELUNGEN, and a few other titles, and DVD booklets can go larger than 48-pages. Re: 1 Sunrise
For those who care about this sort of thing, the Blu-Ray of Sunrise has been given spine number 100.

Fraid it hasn't.... we're putting the BDs at the top there... we're still debugging the new site.
The SUNRISE BD is #1, like the DVD.

How come Beaver does not have a comment comparing the new MOC Sunrise to the Ford At Fox edition? Or did I just miss it?

Check the Ford at Fox review, it's between She Wore the Last Yellow Laugh and The Vampire who shot Faust.

you mean Murnau / BorzageSaturnome wrote:Check the Ford at Fox review, it's between She Wore the Last Yellow Laugh and The Vampire who shot Faust.
But then again, the "Export Version" from the Fox boxset, is it the same as the "Czech Print" from the MoC?

No, I'm fairly certain they said that the prints included on the newest Sunrise release are brand new restorations.manicsounds wrote:you mean Murnau / BorzageSaturnome wrote:Check the Ford at Fox review, it's between She Wore the Last Yellow Laugh and The Vampire who shot Faust.

Re: 1 Sunrise
No they're not-- they're using the hi def digital transfers from Fox used in the MurBorz box. Primary difference being they're actually encoding the HD transfer of Sunrise in it's 1080p rez, rather than cmpressing down to SD a la the DVDs in the box set.

Re: 1 Sunrise
I think you should use spoiler tags for information like this. Faust is totally ruined for me now.Saturnome wrote:Check the Ford at Fox review, it's between She Wore the Last Yellow Laugh and The Vampire who shot Faust.

Yeah, silly directors who put spoilers right into the title of their films. The thing is that if you play by the rule people can't tell what film you are talking about.
(And I have just realized that yellow laugh doesn't translate from french into english, too bad)
Hmpf I'll try get back into the topic: I wonder how the American print will turn out on Blu-ray. The Czech print looks wonderful from the screencaps, but the American print is far more blurier. Will the blur turn into grain? (I tried)

Yes it is dissapointing that the booklet is not as big as first said it would but looking at the dvdbeaver caps, the transfer makes more than up for that. It looks gorgeous
