Re: Milestone
Any plans or talks about re-issuing the Charles Burnett set on Blu-Ray? (Also, if that were to happen, would you need/want to do a new transfer or do you already have HD masters that would be suitable?)

I'm really curious about an update of IT HAPPENED HERE. It would be great to watch it in high def (and maybe havesubtitles for some of the dialogue, too!

Re: Milestone
Dennis, I am delighted that I Am Cuba in HD is still on the cards. Are you guys looking into upgrading J'Accuse as well?

Re: Milestone
Okay, guys, I really can't go over our films one by one. Here's the story. We're a two-person company and we often have to choose -- because of time -- on properly restoring a film or bringing out older titles in newer versions. For example, we're having a theatrical premiere on February 6 for the films of Kathleen Collins, a premiere of a new restoration that we're working on now for Berlin in a few weeks, a 3-day celebration of one of our filmmakers on February 15 in New York, and then the home video release of THE CONNECTION and IN THE LAND OF THE HEAD HUNTERS on February 24th. And we have three films we're working on the reprinting of out-of-print DVDs with new covers. All this comes with weeks and weeks of marketing and publicity leading up to each event. It's an unusual month, but it's a fairly typical balance.
We do have plans to bring out as many of our films on Blu-ray as possible -- some are difficult because of the access to the materials. More will be revealed during our 25th anniversary plans starting in the summer. As for J'Accuse, that's my friends at Flicker Alley!

I saw the restoration of IN THE LAND OF THE HEADHUNTERS at Il Cinema Ritrovata last summer - it was fascinating! And the restoration looks good, too. Worth checking out if you haven't seen the film before.

Re: Milestone
The Indiegogo campaign from a couple years ago only raised $34K of its $95K goal. Now they're only looking for $30K more, and on the first day they're already a third of the way there!

Re: Milestone
Well... the $95K is closer to what we'll need total in the end for NOTFILM, but we've put in some money, gotten good prices for some of the post-production, and we're hoping we'll go above the goal from Kickstarter to pay for some things that we'll enhance the film and pay for more bonus features. If we do go above goal, our summer staff has something planned for me that will hopefully amuse everybody.swo17 wrote:The Indiegogo campaign from a couple years ago only raised $34K of its $95K goal. But we're really grateful after an incredible first day. It's pretty amazing how many great old friends -- and new friends -- can be.

Just curious - Will the indiegogo campaign rewards be still given when NOTFILM gets finished?

Re: Milestone
Notfilm project funded with 3 days to spare. (Congrats!) Stretch goals involve pies in the face and additional extras on the release, such as:
• Buster Keaton and Film: A Conversation with James Karen
• Memories of Samuel Beckett: A Conversation with James Knowlson
• Memories of Alan Schneider: A Conversation with Jean Schneider
• Memories of Grove Press: A Conversation with Jeannette Seaver
• Photographing Samuel Beckett: A Conversation with Steve Schapiro
• A Meeting With Samuel Beckett: A Conversation with Kevin Brownlow
• A comprehensive website that will serve as a vital resource, portal, and entry point for research, including a wide range of additional audio and visual media

The latest Milestone newsletter says they have just 90 copies of the Martin Scorsese Presents Masterpieces of Polish Cinema, Volume 1 blu-ray box set for sale. US and Canada only.

Re: Milestone
Bah, it's probably a lot cheaper to import from Poland, isn't it? Is that set limited at all?

Re: Milestone
It's like $125 before shipping on the Polish site, but no idea what American shipping costs since it's not an option
EDIT: the set is "extremely limited," whatever that means

At least shipping for this US option is free. I'm not taking a chance on missing out on this.

Re: Milestone
Very tempting, but shipping to Canada is another US$39. I'm guessing the Polish release is identical to this?
