Do we know if that's going to be the price?

Most AE Blu-ray boxsets get cheap pretty quick. Not had to pay more than £19.99 for any of their Truffaut, Bergman, Mizoguchi sets etc.

I bet it's 60-70 pounds and on sale for 25-30 by end of year

The problem here is that The Unknown Girl promotes the same old one-dimensional view of life in the European Union. So the rights and wrongs are effectively predetermined by the Dardennes and the entire social system is essentially oversimplified in a way that allows them to deliver a number of their familiar points.

Odd political commentary by a blu-ray disc reviewer.

Though to be fair, it's exactly the kind of issues I had with 2 Days 1 Night.
Oh, and it's Seraing, not Saraing.

That looks great. What are the chances of Criterion updating their box set?

I wonder what happened to their Malle set, which is due in four weeks. No cover arts or specs announced yet.

I am excited by this but I'm also tempered by the fact that AE releases never seem to be smooth sailing.

I'll wait until the first screenshots are available.

Ah, I assumed something was happening as Malle's stuff is all on Curzon Home Cinema for streaming.

I have tried to find Simenon's story / Novel on which Bela Tarr's "The Man from London" is based. I looked for an English translation of this, without success. If anyone knows where I can find this, I will be grateful. (I have posted this here, because the DVD is from AE).

It's known as "Newhaven-Dieppe" in English. I don't think there's a currently in-print edition, but the old green cover Penguin (a double edition with "The Man From Everywhere," which is the English title for "Le Relais d'Alsace") should be fairly easily available from Amazon marketplace sellers etc.

Artificial Eye / Curzon Film World

#2045 Post by MichaelB » Tue Aug 15, 2017 11:20 am

Ten discs is enough for a complete survey (since most Kaurismäki films are well under 90 mins and some nearer 70), although when Artificial Eye attempted a four-volume DVD overview a decade or so ago they left out I Hired A Contract Killer.

I find it curious that they have announced so many director sets to be released in such short succession, but they still have not gotten around to releasing the long awaited Haneke set.
Artificial Eye if you are reading this, please do an Angelopoulos set next!

If I'm not very much mistaken, the Kaurismäki box is damn near complete aside from I Hired a Contract Killer - presumably problematic rightswise as a UK co-production.

But we're not missing much: I enjoyed what Kaurismäki did to my native north London, but it's easily one of his weakest films.
