Re: Kino
But I missed zero days of work? And part of what I wanted was the streamlined packaging anyway.
Also, I've only had something go wrong with around 1% of my Amazon/eBay sales. And I couldn't justify a lot of my DVD purchases without them.

They're getting a separate release? Sure, now they're available, but of all the stupid ideas. Even if you aren't region free yet, just get the Arrow Bavas rather than waste your money on Kino's BS.dwk wrote:From Kino Lorber Studio Classics facebook pageThe AIP Black Sabbath/Black Sunday are in the works for later this year, in Kino Lorber's Bava line.

Re: Kino
All these titles are very attractive, but before I want to get any of these from KINO, I want to get Dersu Uzala (1975) first. Dersu Uzala has been rumored to be restored and released by them almost three years ago (I could be wrong and it might be more than that!). They need to get their acts together.
Meanwhile, I am sure most of these Hollywood classics will be available via MoC and I will happily import them. At least, they will have one thing extra in their releases (compared to Kino)- booklets

Dersu Uzala was announced by Kino a couple of years ago as an upcoming blu-ray release, but obviously that has not come to pass. Has anyone ever heard why?

I don't know the reasons for delay in this specific case, but in the past finding suitable elements has been a problem. Also, those elements generally belong to Mosfilm rather than Toho, and they have not always been cooperative.bringmesomechemicals wrote:Dersu Uzala was announced by Kino a couple of years ago as an upcoming blu-ray release, but obviously that has not come to pass. Re: Kino
Sokurov's Faust is getting dumped straight to DVD only on June 24th. Which is surprisingly sort of news to Leisure Time Features the U.S. theatrical nano-distributor who assured me that the title would definitely be getting a Blu-ray release. Kino tells me two conflicting overlapping stories: one is that they see no Blu-ray market for art films, the other that their past Sokurov titles have sold relatively well so there might be a Blu-ray coming later in the fall -- but also probably only if this coaster of a down-resed hackjob sells well enough. I say, don't hold your breath. Better to try and find an import or fan-subbed file.

Even that Russian one that I see listed on Amazon.com, which proclaims itself region-free and with English subtitles? Is it just a bootleg?swo17 wrote:Unfortunately, all the other Blu-ray releases in the world are compromised in some way (either no English subs or interlacing issues).

Re: Kino
When peerpee discovered the issue with the AE Blu, it looks like he stopped short of comparing to the Russian BD. So that could be an avenue worth pursuing.

A real suicide booth would have come in handy for the characters of On The Beach!

Well, I didn't see that coming! Police is with Olive and there's the Criterions of course but I wonder if this means the other initial wave MOC Pialats that were released on Blu in France could be forthcoming as well

Re: Kino
And the Russian Faust BD that was for sale on Amazon.com appears to be a bootleg, a BD-R port of what seems like a standard def Russian PAL release. It didn't seem to have the problem Nick caught. But, likely, neither will the new region 1 DVD, at least as far as I've heard from those who saw the DCP.swo17 wrote:When peerpee discovered the issue with the AE Blu, it looks like he stopped short of comparing to the Russian BD. blu-ray.com review of "Omar" (2013)"
For a 2014 blu-ray release to use MPEG2, and a lossy Dolby Digital soundtrack, I hope Kino's editions of the MGM titles will be better treated.

So is it safe to assume the Kino blu-ray of Faust now up for pre-order will exhibit the interlacing of the AE disc?swo17 wrote:When peerpee discovered the issue with the AE Blu, it looks like he stopped short of comparing to the Russian BD. So that could be an avenue worth pursuing.

Re: Kino
It's not safe to assume anything at this point. I'm going to write back to the U.S. theatrical distributor and to Kino Lorber and I'll see what they say. I want to make sure this isn't a page that could vanish into thin air if sales of the standard def DVD disappoint or for some other random reason like Kino's previously disappearing Blu-ray of The Sun.javi82 wrote:So is it safe to assume the Kino blu-ray of Faust now up for pre-order will exhibit the interlacing of the AE disc?swo17 wrote:When peerpee discovered the issue with the AE Blu, it looks like he stopped short of comparing to the Russian BD.
