I watched about 10 minutes of Rapture on youtube and can already tell it's a must own. There's a handful of shots alone in that brief runtime that are a clinic in composition and camera movement.

Also sampled enough of The Egyptian on youtube to figure I'll enjoy it enough. So, along with The Song of Bernadette, a 3-title order for me today.

It's easy to enjoy if only for the performances. Peter Ustinov is hilarious and you get a pairing of Golden Age beauties in Simmons and Tierney.

The Robe wasn't even as good as it's own sequel. A very tedious watch indeed.

Well, that was quick. 4:06 and they're already cleaned out of all the remaining copies of Christine. Ah, well, I got the autographed copy I was after.

Yeah, I managed to snag an autographed one, too - specifically for scalping purposes :) . The way i look at it, I got to catch up on a few of the TT titles I'm moderately interested in for free.

Yeah, I'm only so-so interested in Christine, but everything I bought is more or less stuff I was interested in anyway- Bonjour Tristesse, Swamp Water, The Fury, and Rapture (which I hope lives up to the boosting it's been getting around here)- so I kind of can't lose, even if for whatever reason I can't sell the Carpenter. Shame I couldn't put Major Dundee into that order- that, Bell, Book, and Candle, and The Big Heat (which I already bought) would mean I'd have pretty much every Twilight Time release I had any interest in.

Given the Christine precedent, this could sell out within four or five years!

I know you're joking, but this one technically isn't a TT title, and will not be a limited run.

Correct, it is not on the Twilight Time label but Twilight Time is handling the production of it for Fox.

I've watched this movie on TV several years ago, it wasn't that bad. In fact, I even enjoyed it...
after all it's a movie with Cybill Shepherd and if the picture quality is as good as her beauty in this movie, this would be a good blu-ray title next to "The Last Picture Show" and "Taxi Driver"

more seriously (I was -) : so it is not a limited release - does that imply that it could be region "locked" ? (since Fox used to region-lock is Blu-Ray)
and above all, could I order this title at dvdpacific for instance, or is it again a screenarchives exclusive title ?

For those unaware, you can read about the latest TT drama regarding their Major Dundee release in this thread over at HTF:

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/topic/3 ... 013/page-9" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

For their Blu-ray of Major Dundee, TT have presented two versions of the film: the original theatrical release with the original Amfitheatrof score, and the extended "re-edit" with the new Caliendo score. But some are unhappy, because whilst the DVD did not include the theatrical release at all, it did include the theatrical score as an option to view with the extended cut, in place of the Caliendo score. This is not an option on the Blu-ray. And apparently not an oversight, but a deliberate decision by TT.

Lots of name calling and the typical bad customer relations from TT in that thread, it's a fun read.

I have to say, Redman's explanation seems perfectly reasonable to me. He'd probably be better off just leaving it at that, instead of coming back a couple pages later to engage in a pissing match with that Jack P guy. But still, the explanation for what is (or isn't) on the disc seems reasonable.

Also ... I'm not sure it's fair to call the omission of the original score on the extended cut "a deliberate decision by TT". Sounds like it was given to them that way by Sony, and not something that TT had much control of one way or t'other.

Yes, that's also possible. Personally I only have an interest in watching the theatrical version anyway, so it doesn't really affect me. But to do away with a viewing option that was available on the DVD, despite the good reasoning, just seems self defeating.

Just because Sony's HD master didn't have the original audio on it doesn't mean that TT couldn't have asked for it separately and laid it in there themselves. In fact, ripping it off the DVD and uprezzing it in there would have probably fooled everyone (it's been done before).

Criterion passing on SEXY BEAST is a bit of a kick in the teeth for Glazer fans. I was half-expecting SEXY BEAST and BIRTH to be Criterions...
