I adored Rapture, I don't understand how it has been forgotten for so long. I'm not sure I'd call it a masterpiece but it's almost there. It's up on YouTube but I wish I just waited until I had Twilight Time's release.

Yeah, I know some people like to "preview" stuff on Youtube or Netflix instant before they buy a Blu or DVD, but I'm very much the opposite -- I want to hold out and see it for the first time in the best quality possible.

I guess the Robe Blu didn't sell so well if its sequel is getting the Twilight Time treatment-- I would have though the biblical crowd would have pushed this into the mainstream, but all bets are off post-Fright Night, eh? Delmer Daves' Blu-ray rebut is obviously something to celebrate, but all the same I will probably stick with my DVD that cost $4 new a couple months ago...

From Facebook:
Twilight Time is very proud to present Jean Renoir's forgotten gem from 1941, "Swamp Water" on Blu-ray...a lustrous treat in razor-sharp black-and-white...available for pre-order Monday 16th Jan, only from http://www.screenarchives.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

For the hesitant, I cannot recommend Swamp Water enough. That is a godawful and unrepresentative cover, though

Booklet cover is better. They should switch 'em.

So, it's not a backwoods slasher movie?

I think The Southerner and This Land is Mine are very good, so I'm happy to see another Hollywood Renoir movie coming out.

Well, John Carradine does feature as a kitten killer!
Desirée
My only unseen Brando film from the first decade of his career!

My personal pick for Carradine's nadir is his floating head stock footage in Frankenstein Island. Swamp Water sounds like a cross between Deliverance and Tobacco Road. I'm so there.

At least Carradine will always be able to claim this masterpiece

Rapture didn't have one, as far as I know.

That's a shame. I haven't ordered Rapture yet, but there was one for Fright Night, Picnic, and Mysterious Island, and I understand The Egyptian came with one too.

FWIW, I just received Mysterious Island, The Egyptian, Rapture and The Roots of Heaven by post yesterday, and the only fridge magnet was for Mysterious Island.

Twilight Time revealed on their Facebook page that they have access to George Stevens' Only Game in Town with Elizabeth Taylor and Warren Beatty and are debating whether they'll release it as they're not sure there's an audience. If you're partial, couldn't hurt to let them know. Also apparently they were sniffing around Cukor's the Blue Bird but the elements weren't good enough

I wonder if they've tried for The Lady from Shanghai, it's a Columbia title that I wouldn't be surprised to see Sony licence out.

^ Maybe, but they also mentioned on FB recently that they have to compete with the likes of Criterion for Sony titles, and Lady From Shanghai is awfully high profile for Twilight Time.
