After Richie releases Mordecai, every now and then you'll hear a screech off in the distance, and Richie looks up. Seems like the same screech in The Darjeeling Limited when the three brothers get off the train when it gets lost.

I was actually at that talk - he didn't specifically mention Criterion, but who else would it be?

Great! At this rate, maybe we can get Life Aquatic by winter or early spring.

Blu-ray.com review wrote:
The film's greatest strength is also arguably its greatest weakness - the rapid mood swings that leave one unsure whether to feel good or bad about the main protagonists. If one has ever been as desperate as the Tenenbaums are, the film could be a fascinating experience. But if one has never been as lonely - and thus forced to be eccentric - as the Tenenbaums are, their behavior could be both puzzling and enormously frustrating.

Practically Tooze-ian. I think Blu-ray.com would be a much better site if the reviewers could only comment on the video, audio, and extras.

That's basically all I read the reviews there for.

this review is laughably bad. really incredible how terrible he was about hiding his opinion of the movie.

He's allowed to dislike the film, it's just very badly written.

I'm more confused about how he equates eccentricity to be a trait that comes with loneliness.

Not only that, but the review suggests that watching a film will be a frustrating and puzzling experience unless the characters in it behave exactly as the viewer might in the same situation. If that were true, I would avoid drama of any kind altogether.

And I'd only get to watch The Shining.

Jack Nicholson reacts exactly as I would in that situation.

Not sure if I want to upgrade to blu-ray for this or not. I don't anticipate it being THAT much better.

Have you watched the DVD recently? It's pretty dire.

It's noisy, lacking in detail, and it just looks bad upscaled. Of course, it's not as bad as the original Rushmore, but I'd still upgrade in a second.

Some discussion of the transfer issues here

If you think those screengrabs look good, well... god bless, but you might need to make an appointment for an eye exam.
