Wings of Desire is one of cinema’s loveliest city symphonies. But when he falls in love with a beautiful trapeze artist, he is willing to give up his immortality and come back to earth to be with her. Made not long before the fall of the Berlin wall, this stunning tapestry of sounds and images, shot in black and white and color by the legendary Henri Alekan, is movie poetry. And it forever made the name Wim Wenders synonymous with film art.

Wings of Desire
Wings of Desire is presented in the filmmaker’s preferred aspect ratio of 1.66:1. On standard 4:3 televisions, the image will appear letterboxed. On standard and widescreen televisions, black bars may also be visible on the left and right to maintain the proper screen format. Supervised and approved by director Wim Wenders, this new high-definition digital transfer was created from a 35mm interpositive and a 35mm internegative scanned in 4:4:4 24P resolution on a Spirit Datacine. Thousands of instances of dirt, debris, scratches, splices, warps, jitter, and flicker were removed manually using MTI’s DRS system and Pixel Farm’s PFClean system, while Digital Vision’s DVNR system was used for small dirt, grain, and noise reduction.
The soundtrack for Wings of Desire was originally created in an LTRT stereo format. The soundtrack for this release is presented in a multichannel format. Supervised and approved by the director, it was remastered and remixed at 24-bit from the original 35mm stems. Clicks, thumps, hiss, and hum were manually removed using Pro Tools HD.
