When Katharina Blum spends the night with an alleged terrorist, her quiet, ordered life falls into ruins. Suddenly a suspect, Katharina is subject to a vicious smear campaign by the police and a ruthless tabloid journalist, testing the limits of her dignity and her sanity. Volker Schlöndorff and Margarethe von Trotta’s powerful adaptation of Heinrich Böll’s novel is a stinging commentary on state power, individual freedom, and media manipulation––as relevant today as on the day of its release in 1975.

Release Notes on Restoration

The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum
The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum is presented in its original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.78:1. This new digital transfer was created from a 35mm interpositive. The soundtrack was mastered at 24-bit from the 35mm magnetic audio tracks; audio restoration tools were used to reduce clicks, pops, hiss, and crackle. To further enhance the image, the MTI Digital Restoration System was used to remove thousands of instances of dirt, debris, and scratches.
